One of the biggest problems today is sadly racism, although lots of people might not think it is a big problem. It’s sad that it is one of the biggest problems is that people don’t see it when in reality they are the ones causing it and it’s mainly all around them. This problem should have been solved a while ago, but we are still here today reliving the past and it’s getting worse. Things like police brutality, the election, and people’s personal experiences show that this is not a fair society.  

This year had many ups and downs but one of the big things we were stressing about was the election. This year’s election really had us all stressed because one of the problems that was not being addressed from our last president was racial injustice. According to BBC News, it states,”I’m hopeful we can still say that, but it took the brutal death of George Floyd to jolt Americans from a position of seeming complacency, where a president could feel confident enough to say that”there are very fine people on both sides” after anti-racism protesters clashed with a group of white supremacists in Charlottesville in 2017.” This means that it made people mad and notice even more what reality is and how bad it is, so people around the world decided to join together and that the president was not seeing what they did to African Americans he sort of ignored it. BBC news included this because they want to let them know that they are the ones voting for our future and if they see what happens to people they see reality hopefully they choose someone who cares about the situation and show others who don’t understand.

According to BBC news, it states,”There was no attempt to change the hearts of Southern racists. In fact, as long as the Union remained intact, racists could act as they pleased. They could lynch, and loot and burn. They could murder and rape. They could threaten and intimidate. They could bully.”This means that no matter what people tried to do to them they wouldn’t care because they’re society was “together as a whole”. People were abused and tortured in front of many many people and they thought it was right because they were black people. BBC news included this because they wanted to let people know that in the past people killed people of color and no one cared because they were together as a community. They included this in this news website to help people understand that it is still a problem that needs to be fixed and how the election would have affected us.This is why we need to solve this problem because it most likely won’t change. 

Another reason that racism is still a big problem today is police brutality. Lots of people might not believe that but it is. According to Nature, it states that,”Many have been arguing for years about the need for better data on the use of force by the police in the United States, and for rigorous studies that test interventions such as training on how to de-escalate tense interactions or mandating the use of body-worn cameras by officers.” This shows that they are trying to prove people wrong by making them do something we need. If they didn’t wear it we couldn’t see what would happen. We could maybe save others from getting murdered and/or getting justice. They included this because people should tell them to wear cameras so that maybe they can actually find what is happening and stop things from happening to innocent people.

According to the article it states that,”Data from California show that police stopped and used force against Black people disproportionately, compared with other racial groups, in 2018 A December 2019 paper reported that bias in police administrative records results in many studies underestimating levels of racial bias in policing, or even masking discrimination entirely.”This shows that they were only stopping them because they assume things that they most likely never did. It is unfortunate because some black people get stopped non-stop and they don’t even do anything. This shows that a lot of the police officers are racist and show it because they stop mainly black people. They included this because they wanted to show that they do have proof and prove a point that this stuff is real and they shouldn’t take it as a joke because things happen other than where they live just because they haven’t experienced this themselves does not mean that it isn’t there. Police brutality is one of the main reasons that racism is such a big thing today.  

Lastly, people around the world want to share their personal experience to show that it does still exist and we should do something about it today. According to the Detroit Free Press article it states,” The daytime nurse got to walk into a room with built-in trust. The night nurse did not. Imagine that. Imagine having to prove yourself on your job because of assumptions made about the color of your skin. Imagine how exhausting that must be. Imagine the mental strength it takes to convince yourself you are competent and professional, despite folks wondering if you are not.” This means that she was easily judged because of what she looks like so then they don’t trust here. But the other nurse who was white was trusted because of her appearance . She has to deal with that all day and move forward because there isn’t anything that she can really do. They included this because people are automatically assumed that they can’t be trusted because they don’t look like me. It’s easy for them to be judged and stared at because they can’t be trusted. It is hard for them already.

According to Shawn Windsor his article states,”It was those conversations that eventually led her to tell me about what it was like for her as a Black nurse caring for mostly white patients, and about how some folks call her supervisor to demand that she not come back in her room. Yes, this is unpleasant to think about. But that’s nothing compared to what nurses who look like her endure.”This shows white people did not like her because she was an African American it was just white people who didn’t want her as a nurse.

People shouldn’t be so judgmental to people they don’t even know it’s a bad thing to do. What if they were judged like that they wouldn’t like it either.They included this because you shouldn’t judge them all the time if you don’t even know them you don’t know what they go through everyday and have to put up with you too. This tells us that people who don’t even experience themselves can see that racism still is a thing. 

Racism is still such a big issue today and we need to show everyone that it still exists and to help others when they are in a situation that they feel like they can’t stop. People shouldn’t judge people at all, it isn’t a nice thing to do. Things like police brutality, the election, and peoples personal experiences show that this is not a fair society. Racism needs to stop today!
