Ukraine And Russia: What’s going on?

Ukraine and Russia are at war against each other! A while back news had claimed that war is going to break out between Ukraine and Russia. Russia had been gathering soldiers around the border of Ukraine, claiming that it was is a training exercise for their soldiers and Ukraine was saying that Russia was planning to invade. Russia had about 150,000 soldiers around different points of the border of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s suspicion came true on February 24, 2022. Russia sent many armed vehicles to Ukraine, along with over 1,200 tanks. Russia also has a huge advantage over Ukraine with aircraft: Russia has more than 13,000 fighter jets and Ukraine only has about 225.

NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance among 28 European countries and two north American countries.  NATO has been sending first aid to Ukraine to help with the war and along with ammunition and weapons. The reason that NATO has been helping Ukraine is that Ukraine is a really close partner of NATO and Ukraine is becoming very close to becoming a part of NATO, according to cnn.com

The reason that Putin wants to invade Ukraine is because “The Russian leader’s initial aim was to overrun Ukraine and depose its government, ending for good its desire to join the Western defensive alliance NATO,” according to NBC News.

He told the Russian people his goal was to “demilitarise and de-Nazify Ukraine,” to protect people subjected to what he called eight years of bullying and genocide by Ukraine’s government. “It is not our plan to occupy Ukrainian territory. We do not intend to impose anything on anyone by force,” Putin insisted.”  “This was not even a war or invasion, he claimed, merely the fiction of a “special military operation” that Russian state-controlled media are required to adopt, ” according to NBC News.

The way things look for Ukraine is bad. Thousands are dead and over ten million Ukraine people have left Ukraine for protection,  moving to neighboring countries. Their neighboring countries like Poland are giving out food at their border to people who have fled Ukraine, according to BBC news.
