This year, Greendot as well as other districts are trying out the new standards called Common Core replacing the old standards which were the California State Standards.

Since this is happening, teachers are teaching their students differently with new textbooks and lessonplans that require more reading and writing on every lesson.

English teacher Carl finer said, “I think they’re an improvement over the other standards.”  He also said, “I think they are more logical on how they progress  from grade to grade.”

Now there are less standards that are rigorous which prepare the students better for college.

Finer also said, “For English there is no more making connections it’s more about using the text.”

Overall, teachers view the new standards as a great improvement over the old standards.
