Steven Aju: Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did you learn?
Estrella Rosas: My mom has been the biggest influence in my life because she has always been there for me and has supported me in everything.
SA: In what ways has your mom supported you?
ER: My mom has supported me in lots of ways but one of the things she has done is protect me from a kid who bullied me. I was in fifth grade and the kid used to always bully me. I told him to stop but he didn’t. So I went to tell my mom and she went to talk to the office. Since that day the kid never ever talked to me again.
SA: Wow, your mom is very supportive. In what other ways has your mom supported you?
ER: She also supported me when I was going through tough times and getting bad grades. She understood why I was getting bad grades and she helped me get my grades up.
SA: Are you proud of having a mom that supports you?
ER: I sure I’m very happy to have a supportive mom because without her I would’ve been a bad kid.
SA: What do you mean by saying that without her you would’ve been a bad kid?
ER: She has taught me to be a good person by showing me how to be responsible, respectful to adults, and honest.
SA: Is there anyone else that has influenced you?
ER: My sister has also influenced me because she has talked to me about lots of important things that make me realize how things really are. For example, she once told me how her childhood was and what struggles my parents had when they came to the U.S.
SA: It’s really cool how there are people in your family/life that influence you and are there for you!
ER: Yea.
SA: What things did the topic you talked about made you realize?
ER: It made me realize that life here in the U.S is not easy when you first get here.  It also made me realize that my parents have gone through tough times but still managed to get through.
SA: Did this make you appreciate your parents even more?
ER: Yes it did. Now I really appreciate what they do for me.
SA: That is nice!
ER: Thank you!
SA: Thank you for letting me interview you and have a great day! Bye!
