Oreos are found to be as addictive as cocaine according to a new study from Connecticut College.

Edwin Hernandez, seventh grader at Animo Jefferson Middle School said, “I had no idea that Oreos were addictive. No wonder I couldn’t put down the box of Oreos. I like Oreos so much because they contain chocolate. I had always thought that there was nothing wrong in eating Oreos. Although I am now aware of Oreo addiction, I still continue eating Oreos even though they have a lot of sugar.”

Arturo Carino,  seventh grader at AJMS, said, “I would’ve never thought that Oreos were addictive, now that I know that they are addictive, I feel weird every time I eat them, so I now try to avoid them.” He feels that it can lead to obesity since he can’t put them down.

The study was done by Connecticut College’s neuroscience proffesor, Joseph Schroeder, and his students. The study was designed to consider the addictiveness of foods with high fat and sugar content. They found that cookies activated the neurons in the brain’s pleasure center.
