Luis Aracen reflects on his happiest memories, including the naming of his sibling after a cartoon and his pride is completing 12th grade despite not doing well in Mr. Finer’s class during quarantine.

Heidi Aracen: Can you tell me your name?
Luis Aracen: My name is Luis Aracen.
HA: Okay Luis Aracen…. Can you describe one of your happiest memories?
LA: One of my happiest memories is when, umm, actually like when you were born. You know, when we got to name you. After the cartoon we used to watch.
HA: And which cartoon was that?
LA: It was a cartoon named “Heidi.”
HA: So, uhh, how would you want to be remembered as?
LA: I want to be remembered as – a brave person, with good intentions.
HA: That’s good, that’s good…. If this was our very last conversation, is there anything you want me to say?
LA: Wait, you. I want you to say?
HA: No, you– to say to me.
LA: I’ll tell you I love you and like… I miss you, because it’s gonna be the last conversation.
HA: Okay… Um, so what are you proud of? Why does it make you feel proud?
LA: I am proud of making it to 12th grade.
HA: That’s good, but why does that make you feel proud?
LA: Because I remember during quarantine, when I had Mr. Finer, and I didn’t do his work, but I’m a senior now.
HA: Can you tell me about someone who had a big influence on your life?
LA: Someone who had a big influence on my life was my mom, because she tries to give the most she can, and she’s always there for me, she never looks.… Like bad at some- at me.
HA: Okay… So will you tell me some important lesson that person aka, our mom taught you?
LA: She taught me to be a respectful man, respect my elders.
HA: That’s good, that’s good, that’s good. So, umm, what’s your, umm video game you like to play?
LA: My favorite video game right now might be, uhh, “Brawl Stars” because my friend put me on the game three days ago, and now I’m playing “Brawl Stars.”
HA: That’s good. So what’s your favorite, place to eat or you like to eat at home?
LA: My favorite place to eat is my mom’s food, you know, it always will be.
HA: So you like to eat at home, that’s cool.
LA: Nah, that’s not my favorite place to eat.
HA: So where is your favorite place to eat?
LA: That is my favorite place to eat.
HA: Oh, so so our house?
LA: Yeah, but if we eat outside, some Oaxacan place.
HA: Wahacaon.
LA: Oaxacan.
HA: Oh so that’s how you pronounce it.
LA: I think.
HA: So what’s your– what’s your most fondest memory with your friends?
LA: My most what?
HA: Your most fun memories with your friends.
LA: My most fun memory with my friends is when we went to the movies after– quarantine 2021, and it was like a year of not seeing each other.
HA: That’s cool, that’s cool.
LA: Alright.
HA: So, umm, so what’s your favorite animal?
LA: My favorite animal since I was young was a shark.
HA: Is it still a shark?
LA: And it’s still shark, yeah, like tiger sharks, great white sharks, whale sharks, all types of sharks.
HA: So what’s your favorite movie?
LA: My favorite movie will be, “Instructions Not Included.” It’s a fun movie but it turns sad at the end.
