Sandra talks about how her life was when she was growing up, for example how she would play with her siblings. But everything changed when she had kids because she had to take care of her kids. Sandra talks about how she grew up so fast and how she wishes she was still a kid. How she wished she could’ve enjoyed it better. Sandra then talks about how she will treat her kids and how she will improve it from when she was growing up. In conclusion, Sandra learned that kids need to be heard and not just seen.

Belen Ramirez: Alright, who am I interviewing?

Sandra Ramirez: Sandra Ramirez.

BR: Okay, uhm, how was life when you were a kid?

SR: When I was a kid it was fun, easy. It was fun because I wasn’t a mom yet, I was a child so I was being taken care of by my parents. My mother always cooked for us, she always took care of us, and so after school I would come home and there would be dinner waiting for us. So we got to enjoy our dinner and from there we could relax watching cartoons, and if we had homework, we did homework. Then we relaxed more, playing outside with my brothers and sisters, so in that way life was a lot easier and fun.

BR: Okay, uhm, what do you wish was different? [laughs] What do you wish was different when you were a kid?

SR: What do I wish that could’ve been different when I was a kid?

BR: Yeah.

SR: I-

BR: [spits water out]

Both: [laughs]

BR: Okay go.

SR: What I wish was different when I was a kid, uhm was that I should’ve enjoyed being a kid more instead of trying to grow up fast. So I remember that I used to- When I was in junior high, I would say, I wish that I was big already with a job, so that I can go out and have fun, spend my money. So instead of enjoying all the blessings I had when I was child, I was looking forward to being an adult, not knowing all the responsibilities an adult person needs to manage. I wish I would have enjoyed being a kid more instead of trying to look into the future, wanting to be in the future, and trying to grow up faster than I was.

BR: Okay. What have you learned from being a kid or what have you learned growing up that you’re going to change with your kids?

SR: So I learned that children- There’s a saying that says children are seen and not heard. So what I learned is that is not right and children need to be seen and heard because they are intelligent people that have lots to say, have a lot to show us, and we do learn from children, and we need to give them that confidence where they should be able to say what they need to say, and that their being taken seriously. So I’ve learned that children need to be seen and heard as well.
