Did you know that the U.S. military has been around for 249 years? It started on June 14, 1775. There are many different branches in the military, six to be exact: the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and the Coast Guard. In this article we are going to go over the Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Air Force. Military.com states that “Deciding to join a particular branch of the military can be difficult. Sure you might have a general idea of what you want to do, but have you seen what all the services have to offer?”
The different branches
Army: The Army was established on June 14, 1775, the same year the military was created. The Army is the oldest branch of the military; the army was essential to gaining independence from Britain during the Revolutionary War.
Marine Corps: The Marines were founded in 1775. The Marines were actually an independent service until 1834, when they joined the military. The Marines are the first on the ground during combat situations with other countries.
Coast Guard: The Coast Guard was founded in 1790. The Coast Guard protects the U.S. waterways. The Coast Guards are the first responders on our coast. The Coast Guard keeps our waterways safe by conducting search and rescue missions.
The Air Force: The Air Force was founded on September 18, 1947. The Air Force actively protects the United States and they work at home (U.S.) or abroad (in different countries). The Air Force was originally created as a unit of the Army.

The challenges of the different branches
Marine Corps: The Marine Corps is considered the hardest branch in the military to get into. The Marines have high physical standards. The Marine Corps combat training has been noted as rigorous. Marines also have tough tasks and very hard missions. This means that the Marines have to be very selective on who they chose to be part of their branch.
Air Force: The Air Force has high entrance standards. The Air Force requires a higher Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score than any other branch in the military, which is an examination that measures your understanding of essential subjects. The Air Force requires you to have strong educational backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Coast Guard: The Coast Guard is usually overlooked but it’s actually one of the hardest branches to get into, This is because of its small size and mission specialization. Like the Air Force, the Coast Guard also requires high education skills.
Army: The Army has been viewed as the most lenient because of their standards to join. The Army has very high physical standards just like the Marines. But just because the Army is more lenient it doesn’t mean that it is easy to get in: you still have to meet all of the requirements.
