During 1970-90’s Jeffrey Dahmer was an American serial killer and sex offender known as the “Milwaukee monster” and a cannibal. He is known for killing around 17 men and young boys and eating them afterwards as well.
Early life:
According to Biography Jeffrey Dahmer was born May 21, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He could be described as a happy and energetic kid until the age of 4. This was after he had a surgery which seemed to change him. He started slowly withdrawing after the birth of his younger brother. Since he was a young child he had a fascination with animal bones and how to clean and preserve them. By his teenage years he was very isolated and friendless. Dahmer said his compulsion with murder began around age 14.
Jeffrey also began to drink at the age of 14. His first killing was when he was 18. This was around when his drinking problem became out of control. He ended up dropping out of university and his newly remarried father insisted he join the army. He enlisted in late December 1978, but early 1981 since he kept drinking the army discharged him. He got arrested for disorderly conduct and his father sent him to live with his grandmother. He then got arrested again for indecent exposure and then again in 1986 when two boys accused him of masturbating in front of them.
His victims:
According to Britannica Jeffrey Dahmer committed his first murder in Bath Township, Ohio, in 1978 and then his second murder was in 1987. After that, over the next five years he killed another 15 young men and young boys. Most of them were African American, Asian, and Latinos. After he was caught in February 1992 he was sentenced to 15 life terms and a 16th was added in May for the murder committed in 1978.
How he lured his victims:
According to the New York Times, Jeffrey Dahmer would meet most of his victims at bus stops, bars, malls, and adult bookshops. From there he lured them to his apartment and would say he would give money or beer in exchange for posing for nude photos. Then he would drug their drinks and while they were unconscious he would strangle and stab them. It is said he ate part of at least one man’s arm and stored the remains, including the heart and other body parts, in his fridge.
Life in prison:
According to Biography, when he was put into prison, guards kept him isolated from other inmates since the guards didn’t want anything to happen to him, like someone wanting to kill him. After his first year he didn’t really cause any commotion so when he asked for more freedom the guards gave it to him. But he would taunt the fellow inmates and guards about his past as well. While in prison he was actually baptized.
His life came to an end on November 28, 1994 while he was on cleaning duty in the gym’s bathroom with two other inmates, Jesse Anderson and Christopher Scarver. The guards left them alone for 20 minutes and when they came back they found Dahmer and Anderson’s bodies there – they had been beaten up by Scarver. An hour later Jeffrey Dahmer was pronounced dead and later Anderson as well. Scarver says that the prison personnel knew he had a big hatred for Dahmer so he wondered if they left them alone on purpose.
