Imagine a world with constant wars happening, and having doctors that don’t even know how to do their job. Imagine having lawyers that can’t defend you in court or teachers trying to teach a subject they know nothing about. These are only a few of the thousands or more ideas of how AI can negatively affect us.
Machines can negatively impact us because they can steal peoples’ identities with AI. They could even pretend to be important political figures and say something that is controversial or dangerous. These AI deepfake videos are getting more realistic by the day. At some point they’re going to be so realistic that people won’t even be able to tell apart AI from actual people. This is bad because with AI advancing so much we need to make sure we add limitations to it before things get out of hand, such as not letting AI make fake videos of political leaders saying things they never said that can lead to wars, these outbreaks leading to utter chaos.
However, some might say that machines can help us with monitoring tasks like watching parking lots to make sure peoples’ cars don’t get stolen, reviewing security cameras for stores, and replacing these types of jobs that people already have, like watching customers at stores to make sure nothing gets stolen. Another way machines can help us is that they are good at analyzing data and patterns and they can react faster than humans. AI is really good at analyzing data and seeing what you watch to do things like recommend you more videos like the ones you watched before.
Machines can also have a downside because machines can cost a lot of money to make and operate, which might not be a good decision for small companies that are struggling financially. Machines can also be bad because they have already started to take peoples’ jobs, leaving them unemployed. One example of this is how nowadays places like some McDonald’s have a self order machine and barely have any workers, which can lead to people not having jobs because machines already took their jobs.
Machines can negatively affect us because using AI is getting more common by the day as some college students are now using AI to cheat on their tests, which means they aren’t demonstrating their learning, and this could decrease the chances of people actually knowing how to do their jobs and people not developing their skills. One example is people using AI during class but not even actually knowing what they’re doing, but showing the work as if it was actually theirs.
If students who are the future continue misusing AI it can negatively affect our future generations’ health and knowledge in careers. Students who are only backed by AI learning would cause great chaos, such as doctors, nurses, lawyers, etc. These careers represent our futures. If students failed in their education by not learning the actual data and only having the answers AI has given them by cheating then our future is highly questionable and open to chaotic situations they won’t be able to handle.
AI can also be a concern on your own privacy by collecting your data without your permission, and can even leak your own personal information without you even knowing. AI by the day is collecting data such as credit card numbers, photos, passwords and much more, which makes it a huge privacy concern.
In conclusion, machines may benefit us but the downsides of AI are too risky to put our future in its hands. While AI helps people doing research give information that is needed for a report and makes doing things like finding information a lot easier, the downsides of relying on machines are people having fake qualifications, like people could get a medical degree by cheating using AI and put peoples’ lives at risk. Instead of using AI we should stop using it. Relying on AI can make people lazier, leave people without jobs, and can lead to society not being able to function without using AI.
