Dog Man is a comedy and adventure movie that was released on January 31, 2025. The director of this film is Peter Hastings, who has also been a part of many other popular films such as Kung Fu Panda, The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, and many more student favorites.
This movie is about a dog and a man who were involved in an explosion, which ended up with the two being combined together: the dog’s head being attached to the man’s body. As Dog Man progresses through his new life, he feels nostalgic about the time when it was just him and his owner. Meanwhile, with Petey, he continues his evil schemes to get rid of Dog Man. Petey gets an idea to revive an evil scheming fish who was named Flippy, but Dog Man saves the day and so Petey’s plans are ruined. Petey gets the idea to make a clone out of himself, and so Lil’ Petey was made. Petey leaves Lil’ Petey, and Dog Man finds him. They create many memories, but to everyone’s surprise, Flippy suddenly appears–revived–and takes Lil’ Petey. This results in Flippy and Dog Man having a final showdown after Petey sacrifices himself for Lil’ Petey. Dog Man ends up saving the day with the help of Lil’ Petey, but Petey doesn’t go back with Lil’ Petey and makes a tough decision to leave Lil’ Petey with Dog Man, and so the story meets its conclusion.
The plot in the Dog Man movie is about more than just a dog becoming a man. It’s a story about embracing a new identity and overcoming the challenges that come with this new identity. Dog Man might have his regrets, but he learns to be happy and accept himself for who he is and who he has become. The plot was a bit fast at times, but that’s what made it engaging because it makes you want to know what’s going to happen next, such as when Flippy suddenly appeared and started attacking Lil’ Petey.
Comparing the movie with the first Dog Man book, the filmmakers included very good details and even added a few more extra details. The plot had a few twists that weren’t inside the book, but the movie still remains very good and enjoyable. However, when they first showed Flippy, he didn’t exactly sound like imagined. Allison thought Flippy would sound more evil. Another thing: the movie doesn’t show Big Jim as much as it does in the book. Some characters also aren’t shown in the movie: Fair fairy, Philly, Crunky, Hot Dog Man, etc.
Our final thoughts about this movie are that it is an entertaining and amusing movie and is recommended to all ages. If you haven’t read the books yet, the movie is a very good way to start. If you have read the books, it’s a nice way to look back and remind yourself of the older books. Watching the movie, you may notice either details that were added to the movie or some details that were removed.
