Some students recently switched from empowered reading (ER) to extra math.

The switch from ER to extra math is something teachers have started doing to help students learn more math. Math teacher Mr. Lo said that they made the switch to help students get ready for the state test and make sure they get good scores on it and help them understand it more.

Joshua Leon is an eighth grade student who was part of the switch from ER to extra math. He said that it felt very weird to change from ER to extra math.

Leon said, “It felt weird changing from ER to extra math because we don’t get to read and we do more math than reading. I would wanna go back to ER because the math is hard and I get bored. I would rather go to ER than go to extra math because how boring and hard doing math is than doing reading.”

Sherlyn Melendez is another eighth grader who switched from ER to extra math. She said, “I like the change of ER to extra math and it helps me grow in math.” She also said that, “I also like how I can listen to music in the class.”

This change has given people more chances to learn more about math and help them grow in that subject. This overall has started to help students grow in math and get better scores in the state test or the diagnostic test. Some students liked the change and some of the students did not like the change of ER to extra math. I think more schools should do this because of how much it helps the students get better at math.
