In only a month eighth grade students of Animo Jefferson Charter Middle School (AJMS) will be graduating as the class of 2025. Some students are feeling anxious because of this, while others are excited about leaving middle school and going on to high school.
How some students are feeling
Deserie Aldana, an eighth grade student and an editor for the Bulldog Bugle, said “I’m going to Animo Ralph Bunche. I’m excited to finally be leaving this small school… Um, but I’m also scared because my best friend isn’t going upstairs. So, and I’m scared we’re gonna end up drifting apart and like at the end, we’re not even gonna know each other no more.”
Another eighth grade student and a staff writer for the Bulldog Bugle, Guadalupe Hernandez, shared how she’s feeling. “I’m feeling weird and surprised because it feels like we’ve only been in middle school for like, half a year, and not even a lot. I’m also excited about going to high school for the clubs, learning new subjects, and incentives… but I’m also scared about failure or messing up my grades, not turning in assignments on time, and teachers are scary.”
“I feel nervous, but not in a bad way, but a good way because it’s something new I haven’t done,” said Orlando Lira, an eighth grader and staff writer. “What I’m most excited about is getting older and meeting new people. Instead of having more responsibilities. I’m also nervous for finishing high school.”
Yamilet Galvan, also an eighth grade student and staff writer, said, “Im sad and upset. I’ve had lots of great memories here in middle school. Ima miss all the incentives… but I’m excited since I saw that they had a band club and I kinda want to join that. There’s a cooking club and I want to join that too. I’m nervous though cause I saw math in high school and it looked really hard and I’m scared that I’m not going to be a genius anymore.”
In conclusion
These are just some of the worries and excitements some eighth grade students may have. They may be worried about losing their connections with people or relationships with their friends when they go to high school. Or they might be worried about keeping their grades up, meeting their new teachers, or just finishing high school.
However, some students are also excited about leaving and going to a new school and the new things that’ll be there: meeting new people, the new clubs that they’ll get to join, new subjects, and the incentives that they’ll get to experience.
