Have you ever had a bad hair day where your hair doesn’t want to be straight down in class? You touch your hair and it’s all flying away. Then it gives you electricity and you try to put water but just won’t get back to normal. Well, this is called static hair, due to static electricity. Want to know how it’s caused and how to get rid of it? Then keep reading.
What is static hair?
According to RedKen, static hair occurs when your hair has a lot of electrons and picks up more electric charges. When this happens this will cause the strands of hair to get apart from one another and start to get on your clothes and be all over the place. When you try to make your hair come back together it causes a little electric sound.
Cause
According to RedKen, the cause of static hair is when your hair and a different object, like a hair brush, sweater, backpack, and any kind of clothing, make friction with one another. When they rub together it releases electrons, which causes it to then become all staticky because there is an imbalance of negative and positive charges.
You can get static if your hair is in bad condition and not well taken care of. You can also get static because of the cold weather. If it’s cold and then you enter somewhere that has hot air, it makes your hair very dry. With damaged hair the static is even worse. Static hair happens more in the cold weather and to damaged hair.
Way to get rid of it
Nordstrom said that you can get rid of static hair by having your hair up in buns, braids, and ponytails so your hair can’t have any contact with other objects. That way no electricity gets passed around.
Avoid the use of plastic brushes because this will make more friction to accrue and can cause the hair to become staticky.
Keeping hair moisturized is also a big part so that it’s not all crazy. You could use hair oils and conditioning. There’s lots more but this is mostly the main stuff to get it controlled.
Michelle Flores, an eighth grader shared her thoughts saying, ’’I honestly hate having static hair because it will be difficult to do my hair. When I experience it I just put it in a braid because I don’t like when my hair is all over the place.’’ This just shows how it’s a real bother to have.
Eighth grade student Guadalupe Hernandez said,”I think that it makes my hair look like a porcupine
Eighth grade student Katelyn Hernandez also said, ”I HATE IT, IT PISSES ME OFF!”
These students all have the same thoughts: they do not like experiencing static hair.
