As this school year ends, eighth graders from AJMS talk about their past three years and their thoughts and feelings of upcoming events like field trips, culminating, and going into high school. This are all the thoughts of these eighth grade students over these topics:
Upcoming 8th grade field trips
Some of the eighth grade field trips that the students are going to be attending are Six Flags on June 9 and the beach, which is on June 10. You are only able to go if you have less than 40 demerits and no 0 or 1’s. These field trips are important for them because it’s their last chance for them to be with their friends before graduating and going off to high school.
Here are some thoughts coming from eighth graders about these events.
Marilyn Sanchez mentioned,’’I’m excited because I get to spend time with my friends for the last week. I am looking forward to going to to both six flags and beach.’’
Hadara Xol shared that,’’ It’s going to be fun and the last memories I will have with my friends.’’
Jayleen Munoz has said,’’I’m looking forward to the beach because that one feels more calm being in the sand…. And get to hang out with my three best friends.’’
All these eighth graders show how they want to go on these field trips so they can spend their last time with their friends making their last memories in middle school together.
Even though they have the field trips to look forward to they also have….
Culminating
This is the biggest event that mostly all eighth graders are looking forward to that is taking place on June 11. Students are putting lots of effort into finishing all their classwork so they are able to walk the stage. It’s a really big deal because they’re going to move on more forward in life.
Guadalupe Hernandez shared her emotions of culminating saying, “It came suddenly out of nowhere I don’t know how to feel and I’m not sure if I’m even prepared to graduate yet.”
Marilyn Sanchez said, “I’m sad and happy. I’m sad because I’ma leave my friends but happy I’m going to a new school and I have worked hard to get here because I had to make sure my grades stayed good.”
Jayleen Munoz mentioned, “I feel sad because I don’t want to leave middle school because I have made lots of people. I’m nervous because what if I fall while on stage.”
Middle school experience
Most eighth graders have been part of AJMS for already three full years and these are their thoughts on all these years they’ve been working hard since sixth grade.
Guadalupe Hernandez said, “My experience throughout middle school was surprising and I had a chance to go someplace else, which I didn’t have the opportunity to in my other school. I was able to go on a boat and watch dolphins and whales. I felt frustrated at some times though because most of the time we had to talk and I don’t like being social.”
Fernando Najera said, “Experience about middle school through the three years that I’ve been is actually really cool. I met a lot of new people like you, uh the security guard, that fool, that fool he’s cool and yeah it’s been really cool.”
Hadara Xol also shared her thoughts saying, “It has been great so much funny memories with my friends and it was really good experience because I made new friends and we learned something new each school year even if it wasn’t school related.”
Transition to high school
Since the eighth graders are graduating they are going to be entering high school and there’s lots of things they need to consider because it’s something big and new to all of them.
Guadalupe Hernandez said, “Thinking about high school actually makes me nervous cause I don’t think I’ll know a lot of people there. But I do know some people and I hope it’s not that bad but I’m definitely not prepared and I don’t like strict teachers and I think it’s going to be way harder and lots of homework.”
“I’m scared because there’s going to be new everything and we are getting closer to adulthood. I’m scared because the subjects are getting harder I DON’T WANT TO BE AN ADULT,” Jayleen Munoz said with lots of emotion.
Jesus Canas also said, “I’m pretty excited to go to high school since I am going with all my elementary school friends, but at the same time kind of nervous since its the last transition before adulthood. I am gonna have to be independent, pay my taxes, go to college, job, and stuff like that.”
Fernando Najera said, “My experience about going into to high school right now is that I’m really scared, um, but I think it’s going to be a great opportunity to like actually discover more about stuff but yeah.”
Looking at these responses shows students are nervous and not feeling ready to move forward to high school because they are going to miss their friends. These students are planning to go to the eighth grade field trips to be with their friends for last memories together. Also they don’t want to grow into adults and have even bigger responsibilities but are all excited but nervous about these big events in their lives.
