WASC comes to AJCMS

On April 4, visitors from W.A.S.C. (Western Association of  Schools and Colleges ) came to Animo Jefferson Middle School to check for school accreditation.

The visitors, Marla Hart, a site director at  Springs Charter Schools (principal) for one year, and Debbie Daniel, an assistant  superintendent for 20 years,  came to make a report on what AJCMS does well and what it can improve on.

The requirements that the school needs to meet to be accredited are knowing if students are learning, if they’re  safe,  happy, and if the students are being treated fairly.

The W.A.S.C. visitors said,” It’s about you [students] and how you are learning.” Accreditors come every three years. The results will be  given to principal Sue Jean Foulkes and the information will be used by teachers as well to improve the school.

A few students from each grade, teachers, and parents were interviewed about the school.  The reason for interviewing them was to get their thoughts on the school because Hart and Daniel said that if they speak to the administrators, they would most likely say everything is good about the school. The WASC visitors wanted to get multiple perspectives.

The results will be shared this Friday with the school staff at the morning meetings.
