SRLA? Grab a friend and be ready to run 18 miles!
On Sunday February 8, the Students Run LA (SRLA) team completed the Friendship Run (18 miles) at Hansen Dam Park.
Eighth grader, Angel Ramos said, “ I mostly liked the ending of the race because people were cheering and giving out medals. This race was tiring because it was a long run and the mile I was mostly tired was on mile 15.” Angel was hoping for it to be more easier but it was actually hard. he said that the weather made the race harder to run because it was really hot.
Seventh grader, Alondra Banda said, “What I mostly liked was the ending I was happy that the race was finally over because it was really long. This race was tiring because there were many steep hills and the dam was really long.” She felt excited and nervous but when she finished it she noticed it wasn’t that big of a deal. Alondra thinks that the weather made it harder to run because it was really hot and the sun was out.
Eighth grader, Cesar Ruiz said, “I mostly liked the treats that they were giving throughout the race. This was tiring because in the first loop I was doing good and the second loop I slowed down and got tired.” For Cesar the 18 mile race was easier because it was his second time and he did better than last year. He struggled with the hot temperature which was a really hot day for him to run.
Seventh grader, Jocelyn Palacios said,”This race was really challenging , and tiring because I was not prepared on running 18 miles.” This was Jocelyn’s first year on running and she said it was good because she now knows the route and next year she thinks she can do better. For Jocelyn the weather made it harder to run because she was sweating a lot and she had to stop and cool off.
The runners ended up very tired but yet completed the 18 miles. They received a white shirt that represents the Friendship run and a medal with blue and yellow on it.
