The Syria Bombing
The U.S., Britain, and France all bombed Syria’s research and military facility last month, on the 7th of April. The Syrian government used chemical weapons on the rebels and civilians in Douma, near the capital of Damascus.
This is illegal according to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), an arms control treaty that outlawed the production, stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons. The treaty has been in place since 1997.
Diego Robles, 9th grader at Animo Jackie Robinson High School, said, “The U.S. was right in bombing Syria because they were breaking a treaty between all the countries in the world,” Diego said, “I’m not sure how this will affect the U.S, but I have seen memes about WW3, so that might be a possibility.” Many others thought that this might be a possibility as well, because Russia made a statement “We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences.” So the nearing danger might be closer, than we think.
Austin Bryant, an English teacher, said, ” The U.S. was not right in bombing Syria. History has taught us that violence is never the answer, no matter how big the problem is.” He also said, ” I think other countries outside of the U.S. already have a negative look on the US. this makes them look more like a bully.” His thought on this leading to WW3 was,” I think there will be consequences. However I do not know if this will lead to WW3.”
Ruben Balbastro, history teacher, said, “Well, Syria was using chemical weapons so it was completely justified.” He also said, “It makes the U.S. look more aggressive and a lot more unwilling to use peaceful tactics to resolve global issues,” His thoughts on the issue of WW3 was, “There is always a possibility that this can lead to WW3. The Middle East is a very volatile place and the U.S.’s need for oil is never-ending.”
It seems as though the majority of people think that bombing Syria was ethical. However it might lead to WW3.
