Have you ever wondered where the Dodgers were founded and about Jackie Robinson. The Dodgers are an organization that plays in Major League Baseball and are a huge success.  I will be talking about the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers were founded in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York. Their first home stadium was Ebbets Field named after their owner. Their owner was Charles H. Ebbets.  They were first called the Atlantics. They were also called the  Grays, the Bridegrooms, the Superbas, and the Robins before settling on the name Dodgers in 1932. They would join the American Association. It is a league where teams can play against each other. They would move in 1958 to California.

The Dodgers new stadium was called Chavez Ravine. According to it says, “The Dodgers were an instant success in their new home, setting numerous NL attendance records at Dodger Stadium.” This is said to be where the Dodgers started their dominance in baseball. Their star players would lead them to winning multiple World Series at the time. They would win four championships before not being able to win it all for a decade. They would win a ring with Tommy Lasorda in 1988. In total they have won six championships while in Los Angeles and New York, with their recent one coming in 2020.

Jackie Robinson is a player that played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He is a very important person to the baseball community. He was born in Cairo, Georgia in 1919. When growing up he loved playing sports. In college he played baseball, basketball, football and did track as well. In 1945 he played a season with the Kansas City Monarchs in the colored league. The Brooklyn Dodgers however wanted to sign Jackie so that he could play for them. This was a shocker as no colored person had ever played for a team in the American Association. According to Jackie Robinson – Facts, Quotes & Stats – HISTORY it says, “Jackie Robinson was an African American professional baseball player who broke Major Leagues Baseball’s infamous color barrier when he started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947.”

He is celebrated everyday in the baseball world on April 15 for breaking the color barrier.

In conclusion, the Dodgers are a great organization. They have many  talented players who have played for them and continue to do so. Jackie Robinson will always be remembered for breaking the color barrier in baseball.
