All throughout the world, there’s always teenagers getting pregnant as a consequence of premarital sex or sexual assault. The option young teenage girls face is to raise their child or to abort. When teen mothers decide to keep the baby, there are statistics and facts that make it seem futile or the life is full of hardships.

The article “Teenage Pregnancy and Teen Abortions Statistics and Facts” by Uttara Manohar states, “Sons of teenage mothers are more likely to serve some jail time, and there is a higher chance that the daughters go on to become teenage mothers themselves.”

Also, the article “The Real Teen Mom: Alarming Statistics” by Dr.Phill states, “Only one-third of adolescent mothers will graduate high school, and only slightly over 1 percent of those will earn a college degree before they turn 30.”

Although statistics show teenage mothers and their children have difficult times, that is not always the case and they are able to face their difficulties and be prosperous.

Animo Jefferson parent Gabriela Gonzalez had her first child at age 16. She says that her biggest obstacle was to balance her school and taking care of her child. Although she had many struggles, Gabriela was successfully able to finish her education and receive her GED.

Being a teen mother comes with physical obstacles as well as emotional issues. Animo Jefferson parent Amanda Zapata had her first child at age fifteen. Amanda said, “I had to stop going to school for a while and I needed to have my older sister Janet, to take care of Joshua while I went to school.”

When asked about negative comments she said, “…it did hurt but then I grew up and just learned to ignored them.”

Teenage pregnancy impacts the lives of many young ladies and although there is many struggles and many insinuations, life goes on. Although the case is not always the same for many young females, these are just examples of how our very own community members were able to handle their challenges.

In order to prevent a pregnancy, there are many contraceptions you can use, just speak to your doctor and have them explain.
