This book is a young adult romance and realistic fiction. This is a story of a 18 year old girl named Olivia. One evening, Olivia went to her best friend Jamie’s house to eat supper. Jamie, his mom, and Olivia were having so much fun making supper that they didn’t hear when Mr. Benton, Jamie’s dad, arrived home.

Mr.Benton had lost his job again so he had started drinking. He was drunk and mad that they were having fun. Mr.Benton shook, grabbed and even pushed Mrs.Benton. Jamie was getting mad at the fact that his mother was being hurt, just like the other days by his dad. Jamie and Mr.Benton were having an argument and that little argument escalated into a fight. Mr.Benton and Jamie were on the floor fighting with Jamie trying to stab Mr.Benton for abusing his mom. In seconds, Olivia saw the knife and some blood. Seconds later, Jamie stabbed his dad. In a matter of minutes or even seconds, his dad was dead.

Jamie lost his mind and he was praying. Olivia packed her things called her boyfriend, Max because she thought that he would be able to help them. Maggie, Max, Olivia and Jamie left their hometown, trying to escape and go hide in New Orleans for the meantime. There are some hardships that both Olivia and Jamie are going to face along the way. Olivia would risk a lot for her best friend, but in the end is it all worth it in the end?

This book will leave you crying and you will be like “wow this was …” Many children go through this too. Many have seen abuse and have been abused. This book tells you that even though you have a best friend and tell them that you will do anything for them, that could lead down a dangerous path. There are going to be some times that you will say that you would do anything for them (your best friend) no matter what, but you won’t be there for them because there are some things that aren’t meant for you to help, even though they are your best friend, family member, or even your girlfriend or boyfriend.  Sometimes, you won’t be able to help them, no matter how much you want to.
