“It feels sometimes annoying but I got used to it so it’s not as hard anymore.”

Brianna Arellano, my childhood closest friend, is a thirteen-year-old girl who is the loveliest person I’ve ever known. We went to the same elementary school but now we’re in middle school. Because her mother was frequently absent, she was responsible for her siblings as a child. She becomes frustrated when she has to rush home to care for her siblings, or when she has to walk home the majority of the time or rely on me for transportation. Having to care for her siblings is a source of frustration for her. She believes that one day, while caring for her siblings, she will be a wonderful mother. When she grows older, she wants to be a baker and own her own bakery. She’s been startled her entire life to learn that her father is a cop, and she thinks it’s incredible.

Valeria Alcantara: Hi my name is Valeria Alcantara and today I will be interviewing my childhood best friend Brianna.
Brianna Arellano: HI I’m Brianna and I’m in eighth grade and am currently 13 years old.
VA:Do you remember how we met?
BA: We met in elementary in CAL (Center for advanced learning) in 3rd or 4th we would always probably fool around all the time and laugh 24/7!
VA: Yea I remember [laughs]Do you regret being friends with me?
BA: I don’t regret being friends with you because you would always help me with my work and would always make sure I’m trying my best and not joking around when it comes to grades and homework and you would always make me laugh no matter if I was sad or not.
VA: That’s good to hear. OK, so is there something that you want to know from me?
BA: Something that I want to know from you is: How does it feel like living with only brothers?
VA: Well to answer your question, I’ll say that it’s kind of fun but annoying at the same time because sometimes they annoy me and sometimes we go out and have fun. Anyways I have been curious to know what it’s like to take care of your siblings?
BA: When I take care of my siblings I feel frustrated but I just try not to get mad when they can’t control themselves because at the end of the day I’m doing it for my mom.
VA:Is having to take care of your siblings hard for you?
BA: Taking care of my siblings is hard but I always make sure I need to do the things I need to do for it won’t be as hard.
VA: How do you feel about it?
BA:It feels Sometimes Annoying but I got used to it so it’s not as hard anymore.
VA: Damn, OK. Did you have a hard time growing up?
BA: Well it was hard but my mom would always try her best to make sure our family is OK because at that time we had a lot of family problems but things are getting better now.
VA:Well it’s nice to hear that things are getting better. How was it growing up with a dad who’s a cop?
BA: Having a dad as a cop is insane because I never thought he would want to be a cop and work for so many hours.
VA: Oh nice. Do you have any favorite memories from your childhood?
BA: One of my favorite memories in my childhood was when we went to McDonald’s and a kid in the window was making some weird faces and made us laugh.
VA: [Laughs] Yea it was fun that day! Did you have any pets growing up?
BA: Some pets I had growing up was 2 turtles and 1 dog name Oso. The turtles didn’t have a name because we didn’t know what to name them. Now I only have 1 cat. My dog Oso died from a disease and one of my turtles got lost. Then, my dad sold the other one.
VA: Now that you are taking care of your siblings do you think you would be a good mom or bad mom in the future?
BA: Well I don’t know if I would be a good mom in the future because I do get frustrated easily when they cry or don’t listen but If they listen I would probably be a good parent.
VA: Then how many kids are you planning to have?
BA:I want to have at least 3 kids and adopt 1.
VA: Since we are talking about us growing up, what do you want to be when you grow up?
BA: When I grow I want to work at a bakery shop, shoe store and at Yogurtland because those where my favorite places to go as a kid.
VA: That’s nice maybe we can open a shop together or something because I have very good experience in baking [giggles].
BA: [laughs] Maybe one day!
VA: Well thanks for taking your time to be able to be interviewed even when your schedule is busy!
BA: Well thanks for having me here and it’s alright since we found the perfect day to do the interview!
