Magnus Chase is an addictive book series
Magnus Chase by Rick Riordan is an excellent, extraordinary, humorous, and addictive book series. It makes me feel like I can read it for hours and feel like a few minutes just passed. Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard takes the perspective of Magnus, a 16 year old boy who dies by fighting an entity with his friends and appears in this mysterious place. He manages to escape but now has to progress through adventures to stop a dreadful matter from rising.
If you’re interested or love humor, good characterization, good friendship, relatable thoughts and a good storyline in a book, then Magnus Chase might just be the book for you.
Magnus has relatable thoughts, like when he questions making friends with a sword and talking to it like a real person. It’s humorous when he makes fun of when he’s in danger, like how his friends fight in a dramatic scene but they’re fighting with just a “Make Way for Ducklings” sign and a pink plastic cupid bow. Another humorous part is how he doesn’t call himself homeless but he calls himself a bum. Good friendship occurs when he gets to learn more about his friends, like his friend Sam trying to balance out being a valkyrie and and a normal person, as well as his friend Hearth’s tragic past.
Magnus Chase is not the only book from mythology made by Rick Riordan. Another book is The Lighting Thief. There are some similarities and differences between them. One of course is they’re both based on mythology and made by the same author. Another similarity is the main characters are both are on a dangerous quest to accomplish something. Both are demigods and progress through a dangerous journey with friends. One difference between both books is that Magnus dies in the beginning but Percy lives. Magnus’ mom dies but Percy’s mom gets imprisoned by Hades instead of killed. Both have different god fathers. Percy goes to a camp but Magnus doesn’t. And of course they have different ages.
Magnus Chase and Percy Jackson are both good books to read, but another one of Rick Riordan’s creations is The Hidden Oracle. Magnus Chase and The Hidden Oracle are similar in some ways like Percy Jackson because they are both are on a quest. Both are teens and are attacked by an entity. There are also some difference between these awesome books, like the purpose of their quests. The settings are different: Magnus is at Boston while Apollo is in New York. Apollo is a god that is punished and turned into a teenager while Magnus is a demigod.
I found this book because of an suggestion from Ms. Lee and I honestly am happy she suggested it. I’m reviewing it because it’s such a good book with everything it does. I 100% recommend this and I’m 100% going to read the next book in this series.
