In high school, my brother Martin Angeles missed a lot of different activities that were going to be fun for him like going to Six Flags. He missed the senior activities because of Covid-19 spreading. He, like many of the high school students, was upset because they would not be able to do the senior activities and they weren’t going to be graduating normally.

His dream job is to become an automotive engineer. He wants this job because he and our dad worked with cars for a while, like changing the plates for the brakes. During the time when they did fix cars, he became more interested in cars and how they work so now when he is in college he wants a major for engineering.

David Angeles: My name is David Angeles. I am 13 years old and today is September the 13 and I am speaking with.

Martin Angeles: Martin.

DA: Who is my older brother, we are recording this interview in Los Angeles, California. I will be asking the questions and he will be answering them. What has been your greatest moment in life?

MA: My greatest moment in life at the moment is graduating high school with honors. The reason why this is my greatest moment in life is because throughout the 12 years that I have been going to school I had more downs than ups but for senior year. I had more ups as I graduate 3.4 GPA and I am currently going to college at cal state university Los Angeles.

DA: What person has inspired you the most?

MA: The person that has inspired me the most has been my dad because he has been always there to support me to keep on going forward, even when life keeps on pushing me down, and also he inspired me to be an automotive engineer he showed me how cars get fixed. I got an idea in mind that I wanted to know how they are made and how one can improve a car and hard times what is going on in the world due to COVID-19. His job hasn’t been the best but even he get any out of his job he always gets food on the table.

DA: How has COVID- 19 affected your life?

MA: Covid-19 has affected me in many ways such as missing out on most of the senior year activities such as going to senior picnic which is when students go to the park and spend most of the day having a picnic and having a good time with friends another important senior activity that I- we miss was also Grad night which was basically this year we were supposed to go to six flags and we were going start at six in the morning and we were going to come back at 3 in the night and on Saturday morning and it was supposed to be a good time going with friends you know, knowing that you officially made it now that’s your last year of school and after this, it’s just basically the adult life and you either choose to go to college or go find a job or you find something better to start there. Another important senior activity that we miss was also prom which is also another big activity such as many students that go to prom usually have a fun time there. Having fun with friends, dancing on the dance floor even if it is a little goofy it’s still a good time because this might be one of the last moments you might spend with thoughts friends, as you might not see them for a while or might not stay contact with them and probably the biggest senior activity I miss all of that due to COVID-19 will probably be graduating properly as we can’t graduate properly since graduating properly would be to walk the stage and receive a diploma from a principal and look at your parents from where they are sitting down seeing that there are proud of you. Instead, we had to graduate through a computer which was not exciting as it would be graduating through person as in the computer we would only show the name for about 10, 15 seconds before they go to the next person. Just not as exciting as graduating in person.

DA: If COVID- 19 didn’t happen what would you be doing?

MA: If COVID-19 did not happen I would have gone to all the senior activities and probably would have stayed in contact with more of my friends but now I have lost contact with some of them but if COVID-19 did not happen, I would be physically attending my college classes at cal state university Los Angeles and probably would have joined a club most likely a technology club or an anime club as they have one there that basically sounds kinda fun I would be working a part-time job that the college would offer me as many students have different schedules the college gives you jobs that fit your schedules and I would probably have some money saved up for to help me fix my car since its a little more broken and I would probably be going out more with friends and parties as since I am now 18 I am officially a young adult and time to explore the world and see what the world as in store for us but due to COVID-19 we couldn’t.

DA: What is your dream job and why is it your dream job?

MA: My dream job is to become an automotive engineer. For why it’s my dream job is because, well I been in the past three years I been helping my dad fix cars like that and it’s gotten more interesting to me to cars. To the point where I wanted to see how cars are built from the ground up and study how can they be fixed, how can they be made and how one can improve… how one can improve the care and hopefully create a better one for tomorrow and yeah.

DA: Do you think this job is going to be hard to get?

MA: I do think this job is going to be hard to get as many big companies, big car companies such as Tesla, Ford, Chevrolet already have a lot of automotive engineers and those automotive engineers have a lot of experience. For beginners it is not as easy to find a job as since they have little to no experience, they usually do not look at them because they think they are not qualified and it also requires a lot of math. During the next four years, I will be going to college and be taking a lot classes such as callus, callus two, AP calculus. Which is going to be a lot of time consumption. Many students can’t not go through that well because well many students aren’t exactly good at math. Well, I said why not give it a try and because also in order to get like a good job as an automotive engineer your suppose to have more of uhh masters,PhD as they look at that they see you’re really dedicated to the job and that you want to keep going. I want to get a masters degree within six years as that would give me a better resume for when I applied to jobs and it would be difficult to get this job as cars are always advancing more and each day there are being more base on technology and… and a person would forever keep on learning about their cars and. [Inaudible]

DA: Well ok, in conclusion, COVID-19 has really affected us throughout our life right now and his high school life will never be the same because of COVID-19 [Inaudible] Well actually I have a few other questions for you. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

MA: In 5 years I see myself still going to college, hopefully in my last 3 years of getting a masters degree and probably working another part-time job that would hopefully give me better pay and probably started giving back to my parents as they have given me the things that I have as right now and even when we were poor we never miss food, we always had clothes, we always had shoes even if they were not the best, they always made sure we had something and I would like to give something back to them so hopefully at that time I would have given something back and uhh my parents are not from here they migrated from Mexico so they do not have citizenship, so hopefully in 5 years would’ve gotten them a citizenship for them both. So they could go back to Mexico anytime they wanted to visit family or friends and come back anytime.

DA: Ok, my last question for you is if you couldn’t become an automotive engineer what would your second job be?

MA: Another job would have in mind in case plan A doesn’t work is to become a mechanic because I would have background knowledge on automotive vehicles and even if it’s not the best pay it also gives good money and I could also start my own business opening an automotive shop and I could have workers working for me and it would also give out opportunities to other people and yeah.

DA: Well finally, in conclusion, this all has been a good chat thank for sharing.

MA: It was my pleasure coming here.
