In 2007 my older brother, Bryan Figueroa, was in our house playing Monopoly when our mom went into labor and was admitted to the hospital. When she came home, she brought me home after giving birth to me and he had came over to look at me.

A few years passed by, when he went to Boot Camp for about three years where he had a sense of anxiety since it was an entirely new experience for him. He went to his room when they had called his name to see how athletic he was, which at the time he wasn’t into sports that much. After he came back from boot camp it wasn’t too late that he went back, and he did the same thing two more times until he finally came home.

He had taken time to spend with his family after being gone for so long, and when I interviewed him today he told me I could take away something from this. He wanted me or anyone else to to take from this interview that it’s never too late to try something new.

  “Luis Sis: So what was it like when I wa-when I was about to be born?

Bryan Figueroa: Mmm..You know what I was actually in middle school around the time you were born. Umm, pretty normal I guess. I don’t have anything that I could say that would [clears throat] That I guess is note worthy. Umm, I remember Mom had come home [sniff] from work (obviously she was pregnant) and when she had come home, like I had some friends over, and we were just playing Monopoly. I want to say it was that same day or the next day that Mom went into labor, and like all happened so fast like she was in the hospital and 2 hours later she was like “Oh your little brother is born.” Umm, yeah that’s all that I really remember, I want to say-it was that week for sure and I remember some of my friends were telling me “Oh, I didn’t know your mom was pregnant because she really didn’t look pregnant” I guess at the time but yeah I remember that at least that around when you were born I was just playing Monopoly with my friends and she came home earlier than I thought she would. And I think that night or later she went into labor.”
