“Hope Was Here” inspired me and can inspire you!
Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer is about Hope, who moved into a small town with her aunt in Wisconsin. Hope and her aunt wanted to take over a local diner but Hope didn’t know what to expect. When they met the owner (G.T. Stoop) of the restaurant they realize that G.T. is not ready to give up his restaurant. G.T. has cancer and is also running for mayor. The person he is against for mayor is a manipulator. Hope works at the restaurant and starts getting along with her co-workers. She also helps G.T. become a mayor.
Hope Was Here is a very interesting book in my opinion. Its major theme, hope, shows people that they need to have hope no matter what they are going through. This is shown when Hope helps G.T. to become mayor. This is giving G.T. hope.
Hope Was Here was also a very interesting book because the book showed me not to trust everything people say. The current mayor in Mulhoney was a manipulator. He made everyone believe that he was doing the correct thing for the town. The mayor was actually getting more money from people he didn’t know and was helping his friends, which included The Dairy Farm. They were not paying taxes. G.T. Stoop made sure to let people know what their current mayor was doing. At the beginning they didn’t believe G.T. but then realized that he was telling the truth. The theme in that part of the story was to not believe someone unless they have proof.
The book also taught me to enjoy every moment in my life. I was able to see that G.T. enjoyed every moment even though he had cancer. We never know when we will leave this world, so enjoy your life. G.T. kept working in the place he enjoyed being. He also found a person that made him happy and married her even though he was in his 50’s.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be inspired.
