Carrie is an underrated book when compared to the rest of the Stephen King books
“Carrie” is a book written by Stephen King, originally published in 1974. It was later made into a movie in 1976, starring Sissy Spacek as the protagonist, Carrie, following another remake in 2013. Carrietta White (Carrie) is about sixteen years old when she gets her first menstrual cycle. Her classmates laugh at her for being oblivious and not knowing what that is. Her mother abuses her and sees her menstrual cycle as a sin. They both have to pray, thinking it’s evil that caused it to happen. Carrie cannot talk back or she’ll get locked in the closet again. With emotional and physical abuse, it’s not easy for Carrie. Carrie is left alone and helpless.
This book was a book I’ve wanted to read for a while, but I couldn’t due to needing to finish other books first. I started reading it during empowered reading. With time, I finally managed to finish it. Look, I’m not going to lie. I’m not about lies, so I’m just going to be honest here. It was slightly boring in the beginning, but it got better. The storyline got more engaging and intriguing. It made me reflect on Carrie’s feelings, and what it’d be like to be in her position. She keeps too many dark secrets to herself, and there’s an even deeper ability she has, but doesn’t discover until later. That’s personally my favorite part, because she really is different, as she discovers something she never knew existed in her. It’s really something different, something new.
Carrie is a different book, when compared to the rest. It tells an untold story, which is both very descriptive and mesmerizing, but at the same time scary like other Stephen King books. Stephen King really has a way of describing that makes you feel like you were actually there to experience what was going on. It’s vivid, and that’s what I like the most.
This book is by far one of the best I’ve ever read. Horror is one of the things that fascinates me, so the aspects of this book really made me love it. If you like horror, drama, and suspense, then you know this is the right book for you.
