The author of the entire Harry Potter series is J.K Rowling.  Her first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was published in 1997.   The series had gotten very popular: eight movies were released based off of the books.

In the entire series, the focus is on the story of young Harry Potter, whose parents were killed by the darkest wizard, Lord Voldemort. The young boy survives his near death, leaving him to live with his non-magical uncle Vernon and aunt Petunia. As his twelfth birthday occurs, he receives news that he is a wizard and has to attend Hogwarts. Every book is based on a different school year and the conflicts that occur with the rise of his enemy — one of the darkest wizards; Lord Voldemort.

The setting of this story takes place in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, located in Scotland. The plot of this film is the act of having bravery and taking action against dark forces rising again in the wizarding world.

Throughout the book, three main characters, also known as the Golden trio, are featured and consist of Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Harry Potter.

In the Chamber of Secrets, the main conflict is that the chamber of secrets is open. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has been running for many, many years with four main wizards that created this school: Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, Godric Gryffindor, and Salazar Slytherin. After building the school, there was one main floor at the very bottom of the school that the other three leaders had no clue of. The chamber was made by Salazar Slytherin. This was later named the chamber of secrets and was once opened one by Tom Riddle during his days at the school.

After many warnings given by Dobby the house-elf, young Harry Potter insists of still attending his second year at the school as he dislikes staying with his muggle (or non-magic) uncles. However, this year does not go as smoothly as his first year does. This year, every student – except Purebloods or Wizards that come from full decent of a magical family, are in fear of being paralyzed, turned to stone, or dying. The purpose of the chamber being opened was for fear to escape and possibility force Muggle Borns and Halfbloods to leave, so that only Purebloods are allowed at the school.

Compared to the movie, which includes Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the Chamber of Secrets book is much more detailed. However, Harry, in both the movies and books, is portrayed with similar or almost the same character traits.  Yet we get a more inside look of the characters and their personalities through the books. In the film, for example, Hermione Granger (played by Emma Watson) is set to be a timid but intelligent young second year wizard. However in the books, she is set to be more brave and courageous, not scared of standing up for herself, nor for her best friends — Ron Weasley and Harry Potter. Ron Weasley in this book differs from the movie because in the books he seems more protective and full of more knowledge than in the films.

In conclusion, this book does contain a lot of events. Personally, I loved this book because of this. There were a lot of suspects of who was behind the attacks, suspense that would slowly build up that lead to the beautiful ending, and characterization of how the characters blossom overtime and who they really are. I would recommend this book to readers or audiences whose interest is sparked by adventures, mystery, and non-fiction reads.
