Hitler started his rise
Imagine being in the Wiemar Republic, seeing Hitler rise to power, and slowly watching the democracy of Germany fade after Germany’s defeat in WWI. After WWI the government of Germany wasn’t very stable, and this led to many wanting to overthrow the government. Hitler fought for Germany in WWI and was enraged by Germany’s defeat of Germany in WWI and wanted to take control of Germany. Hitler joined the German Workers Party in 1920, which changed its name to the National Socialist German Workers Party, or the Nazi party.
According to “Facing History and Ourselves” in “Hitlers rise to power:1918-1933 by Wendy lower Et al it states, “That became the core of his message. And then attached to that was a particular statement that among those seditious forces were the Jews.” This shows Hitler started to spread hateful ideas of the Jews and others.
Hitler gains control
In the 1920’s Germany had gone through an economic depression. Hitler saw this as an opportunity and rounded his supports up and tried to overthrow the governmen, but he was arrested. According to “Hitler comes to power” by the “United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington DC” it states, “ In the July 1932 parliamentary elections, the Nazis won 37 percent of the vote. This was more votes than any other party received.” This shows the Nazis were starting to gain popularity and support among the Germans.
The Nazis used their power in parliament to refuse to work with anyone and demanded that Hitler become the chancellor. Hitler became Chancellor in 1933 and after Hitler started to dismantle German democracy and slowly made it a dictatorship. In 1934, the president of Germany had died, and Hitler had used this to declare himself leader of Germany. he had become a dictator.
Hitler’s first actions
According to “how did Adolf Hitler happen” by the NationalWW2muesum.org it states, “His regime also suppressed the Communist Party and purged his own paramilitary storm troopers, whose violent street demonstrations alienated the German middle class.” This shows right after Hitler took over, he ripped off what democracy still hadn’t been annihilated and suppressed people so they wouldn’t rebel against him and make it easier to control.
