As the school year is coming to the end there have been a lot of eighth graders wondering where people are going for high school. So I decided to interview a few different people to ask where they are going and why they chose their school. From the answers I got, it seems like there’s a lot of reasons based on family decisions or based on school programs.

Marilyn’s high school choice
Eighth grader Marilyn Quevedo has decided to go to Animo Ralph Bunche for high school. She chose this school because she heard that the school offers a lot of good programs and sports.
She said, “I decided to go to Ralph Bunche because apparently they have a lot of good programs and sports.”
She does feel like she can get a better opportunity at a different school, like for example Santee Education Complex, because she’s heard that they have better sports and other programs.
She said, “Yea I think I would. Uh maybe Santee. Because I heard that they have a lot more sports and good things there.”
Guilmar’s high school choice

Eighth grader Guilmar Lopez-de Leon has decided to spend one year at Animo Ralph Bunche and spend the other three at Animo Jackie Robinson.
“I’m going to go to Animo Ralph Bunche for like a year and then go to Jackie Robinson.”
He said that he is getting forced to go to Animo Ralph Bunche and he wants to spend three years at Animo Jackie Robinson because he thinks that Animo Ralph Bunche is a horrible school. He thinks this because of a recent protest that the high school students had due to budget cuts.
“Cause the school upstairs (Animo Ralph Bunche) is horrible. Cause it’s poor, it’s literally protesting for money. Cause I think it’s a better school (Animo Jackie Robinson) cause the school is not poor.”

Sarai’s high school choice
Eighth grader Sarai Ronquillo has decided to go to Animo Ralph Bunche for high school. She decided on this high school because of her two older sisters that are already in the high school and it will be easier for her parents.
“I am going to Animo Ralph Bunche for high school. I chose that school because my sisters are in the school and also it’s not that far away from my house.”
She does want to go to Synergy Quantum Academy because she heard they have good classes.
“Probably maybe Synergy Quantum High School. It’s a big school and I heard that they have good classes and someone I know from there is going there.”
Leam’s high school choice

Eighth grader Leam Aceituno has decided to go to Animo Jackie Robinson for high school because he heard it was a good school and because his older sister went to the high school.
“Yea I’m going to Animo Jackie Robinson. Um, I’ve heard it’s a good school and my older sister went there.”
He also chose this school because none of the schools around him gave him interest. Also, due to his interest in sports he feels like Animo Jackie Robinson is a good school because of all of the good equipment they have.
“Um honestly some of the schools in my area didn’t give me much interest but since my older sister has went there and I think other family members wanted to go there. Um yea definitely probably maybe soccer and American football cause they have good equipment and they have like their own indoor gym and stuff.”
Emily’s high school choice

Eighth grader Emily Angeles has decided to go to Diego Rivera Learning Complex. She chose this school because she didn’t apply to any other schools and it was her last option.
“Yea I’m going to Diego Rivera. This high school was like my final option cause I didn’t apply to any high schools at the beginning of the year.”
She believes she could’ve gone to Bravo Medical Magnet if she applied earlier. She wanted to apply to Bravo because she likes how big the school is, how it doesn’t require a uniform and she thinks its a nice school overall.
“I’d say yea. Maybe Bravo. I would have liked to apply to Bravo because I like how the school is big and the school doesn’t require any uniform and it’s a nice school.”
Aaron’s high school choice

Eighth grader Aaron Garcia had decided to go to Orthopaedic Hospital Medical Magnet High School. He chose this high school because he’s a nerd and he thought that Orthopaedic is a nerdy school.
“Yeah I know I’m going to Orthopaedic. Because I want to be a nerd, and like Orthopaedic is a nerdy school and it’s a medical school.”
He would’ve gone to Bravo Medical Magnet but he says it’s far and Orthopaedic is closer.
“I would have gone to Bravo but like that’s too far away and Orthopadeic is the only closest one.”
He believe that both schools have a good education to give.
“Yeah I guess I mean there’s a lot more classes but the campus is a lot bigger so I guess but no, I feel like they give the same amount of like education.”
