Eighth graders might be nervous or scared to enter high school and might need advice to know what to do or what to expect. So we asked high schoolers what advice they would give to students about to enter high school.
High school can be nervous to some people, or exciting, and some students think it’s something like the movies.
Enjoying sports
Sports can really be fun. By participating in activities and joining a team you can have an opportunity to make new friends. It can give people a fun way to stay active and socialize with people.
Emma Lopez, a 10th grader at Jefferson High School said, ”You should do sports or any club and make friends while having fun. Sports can also help you on grades if you wanna be in the team.”
Being prepared
Being prepared for high school can benefit you so you won’t be behind on your work. Building strong organizational habits can reduce stress as well. Plus you can teach or tutor other students that don’t get it.
Alizon Castinedia, an 11th grader at Santee Educational Complex said, “Be prepared for harder work and pay attention to your classes. Don’t do anything that you’re going to regret later on. Do not slack off and don’t leave anything last minute to do your work.”
Angel Hernandez, who’s an 11th grader at Synergy Quantum Academy High School stated, “don’t let your friends influence you on bad choices. Like for example, they are going to ask you if you want to skip class or anything you’re not supposed to do, just don’t follow them.”
Freshman year
The first year should be fun but still do your work. It can be scary because it’s your first year but you can still get through it and have plenty of fun.
Cintia Solano, a ninth grader at Santee Educational Complex said, “The first year can be really stressful but as the time goes you can get used to it. Don’t be scared to talk to people and be talkative and don’t be problematic and ignore when people try to start things with you. “
Mylin Lopez also said, “ The work can get hard when you leave it at the last minute, it can pile up time by time. Be talkative, join activities, it can make you more nervous making friends.”
