As the eighth-grade culmination is coming up, many students have been working hard to prepare for high school to build strong habits for next year.
Attendance:
Eighth-grader Jasmine Mayo and Ruth Solano plan to work on their attendance. This way, it won’t jeopardize their class credit or lower their grades.
Jasmine Mayo said, “I plan to prepare myself for high school by working on my attendance, so when I start high school, I won’t risk my grades going down.”
Ruth Solano said, “I plan to prepare myself for high school by making sure my attendance is better for high school and won’t get in the way of my class credit going down.”
This will help eighth graders before entering high school so they can be on time for school. This will ensure they won’t miss important tests or assignments.
Procrastination:
Another way eighth graders are preparing themselves for high school is by not procrastinating their work.
Eighth-graders Dayeli Mantilla and Emely Navarro plan to stop procrastinating on their assignments in high school. This way, it won’t cause their grades to drop and make them fail.
Emely Navarro said, “I plan not to procrastinate my assignments in high school, so I won’t risk my grade being lowered and making it hard for me to get my grade up.”
Dayeli Mantilla said, “I plan to not procrastinate on my work for high school and get it done on time to keep my grades up, so I won’t have to worry about a bunch of assignments.”
This will help eighth graders not wait until the last minute to finish their work and cause their grades to drop, which could make students ineligible if they are in sports or clubs.
Improving grades:
Another way eighth graders are preparing for high school is by working on their grades.
Eighth graders Samantha Guillen and Dayeli Mantilla plan to work on their grades by attending office hours or asking teachers if there are assignments they can do for extra credit.
Eighth grader Dayeli Mantilla said, “I plan to prepare myself by going to office hours to help raise my grade if I need to. I can also ask my teacher what I can do to raise my grade. This will help me keep my grades good and not worry about them being bad.”
Eighth grader Samantha Guillen said, “I plan to prepare myself by checking on my grades constantly and seeing if there is something I can do to keep improving in my grades. I also plan to keep going to office hours to help maintain my grades.’’
This will help eighth-grade students prepare to maintain their grades and build a strong habit of checking up on their grades so they won’t worry about them going down.
Avoiding drama:
Another way eighth grade students are preparing for high school is by staying away from drama.
Eighth graders Alison Hermosillo, Emely Navarro, and Samantha Guillen plan to prepare to stay away from drama by staying away from the wrong crowds and keeping to themselves.
Eighth grader Alison Hermosillo said, “I plan to prepare myself by staying away from the wrong crowd and not focusing on anything else but me and school.”
Eighth Grader Emely Navarro said, ”I plan to prepare myself by staying away from drama by keeping myself around people who don’t like to get involved with drama. I also plan to keep to myself so I can avoid negative energy.”
Eighth Grader Samantha Guillen said, “I plan to prepare myself by staying away from negative people because in high school I don’t want to get into any issues with girls, so I also plan to just stay to myself so I don’t have to worry about people going behind my back.”
Study habits:
Another way eighth graders are preparing for high school is by building strong study habits.
Eighth graders Dayeli Mantilla and Alison Hermosillo plan to prepare for high school by building strong study habits with their friends or going through their notes, so when work in high school gets hard, they remember to study before or with a friend and work hard on the assignments.
Eighth grader Alison Hermosillo said, “I plan to prepare myself by building the habit of studying before a test or meeting up with friends to go over what assignment were doing so when assignments get hard, I know to study because it is really helpful.”
Eighth grader Dayeli Mantilla said, “I plan to prepare myself for high school by studying for assignments with a friend by sharing notes with each other, so when I go to high school, I already have the habit of studying with friends for important things.”
This will help eighth graders prepare for high school and build the habit of studying for assignments with friends or even revising their notes. This will help them understand the assignment and achieve a good grade.
Overall, as we can see, the eighth-grade students have been working so hard to prepare and have better attendance, not procrastinating, building the habit of doing grade checks, staying away from drama, and building strong study habits.
