The Backrooms. Many people have heard of this peculiar name, but what is it?

The Backrooms is essentially an urban legend or a dimension beyond reality. This dimension is full of levels and levels, and rooms and rooms. Its a never ending maze.

Most people are first familiarized with Level 0, The Lobby. The Lobby is the first level you enter once you no-clip your way into this out-of-reality dimension. No-clipping is “the action of traveling quickly enough to pass through a solid object.”

Kane Pixels on Youtube is a channel that holds about nine videos showing how the Backrooms were discovered, or the origin of the Backrooms (a short film). The first video has about 29 million views and about 67,000+ comments of people posting their theories and/or explaining the content in the video.

The video starts off with this group of kids that are filming some sort of video or scene on July 4th, with year estimated as around 2009. Once they finish recording take four, they were planning on taking one more shot and they would end their day with that. When the person who was holding the camera tried to back up to get a wider angle, they somehow fall backwards into the ground and no-clip their way into Level 0. The ambient of this level is surrounded by the smell of wet carpet, walls with a monochromatic tone of yellow, and the buzzing sound of the fluorescent lights.

Although Internet users have expanded upon this concept by creating different “levels” and “entities” of the Backrooms, the original version came from a two-paragraph 4chan comment on a post asking for “unsettling images,”where an anonymous user invented a story based on one of the photos. The Backrooms drew comparisons to various other horror trends and media, including the photography of liminal spaces, the collaboration of the SCP Foundation, and the six-hour-long album series Everywhere at the End of Time.”

The video then continues with the person exploring and wandering around this mysterious and unusual environment. After walking around for a while, he finds these mysterious drawings on a wall. Zooming in on the drawings and writings, one states “Don’t move stay still.” A few seconds after reading this phrase, he then turns around to a loud and discomforting noise that is coming from some sort of creature (the first entity that is introduced in this video). The guy then proceeds to run from this horrifying, tall, skinny, no faced creature. He ends up finding this squared opening on the ground, and with no other option, he jumps right in.

Towards the end of the video, he ends up in the same level as when he entered. He later on finds a inclined opening and tries to look and see what it is, when all the sudden an entity pushes him into the incline. Once he’s been pushed, the video transitions to him falling from a very high altitude, all the way down to Earth.

This is only the beginning of the many levels The Backrooms have, and this is only a brief and superficial explanation of what they are. Feel free to do more research if you’re interested in this type of weirdcore or unusual types of things.
