Formula One cars have been around for a long time. To be exact, Formula One was founded in 1950 at the Silverstone Circuit, which was also the venue for the first FIA Formula One World Championship. About 850 million people watch Formula One, making it one of the world’s most popular sports. But what makes a Formula One car?
What specs do F1 cars have?
According to technology org Formula One cars are powered by a turbocharged V6 engine at 15,000 RPM, which features kinetic and thermal energy recovery systems that power the power unit. F1 Units are made of multiple elements, which are the internal combustion engine, motor generator unit-heat, motor generator unit-kinetic, turbochargers, energy store, control electronics, and exhaust. F1 cars currently use E10 fuel, which includes 10% renewable ethanol.
How do the aerodynamics featured on the car help?
According to EIT, aerodynamics has played a major role in Formula One. The wing and diffusers direct airflow to increase the force without excessive drag. It also helps F1 cars maintain high-speed balance and stability while cornering, enabling the fastest lap times.
How does it feel to drive an F1 car?
According to the F1, which is the official F1 website, current formula one drivers describe the experience as a sport where concentration matters because one single mistake can lead to something horrible. They say you have to be one with the car.
It’s also hard to know when you’re behind your opponent since the cars produce smoke, or what they call spray. Because it stays in the air for so long, it’s like closing your eyes. They explain that, even though there are moments that can be frightening, they still enjoy the adrenaline. During the rain, they have to be more careful than usual because one moment you can go straight, but the next, your car can spin. Not only that, but after every lap, you have to figure out where you’re going to position your car.
