Mr. Lo went on paternity leave last Friday March 13. Paternity leave means a period of absence for a father before or after their baby is born. Mr. Lo feels bittersweet about leaving since he’s concerned about what the eighth graders have to get done in order to culminate. He’s most excited to have his first kid because he will be a father for the first time.
Mr. Lo says he will miss the school while he’s gone.
He said, “I am gonna miss it, especially about the eighth grade students, of what they have to get done and the support they need in math. I really hope the long term sub could help support the eighth graders in the way you guys need and in making good decisions to walk the stage.”
Mr. Lo is preparing for the baby.
“We are preparing her room. We are also preparing for my wife to go to the hospital,” he said. “We have a go back to make sure we have clothes for the hospital. We have a car seat and then, we are just trying to learn what babies need for the first few weeks of life.”
Mr. Lo looks forward to being a dad.
He’s looking forward to “Just being able to play with her and see what she is interested in and help her grow into a kind human being and make sure she can look after herself and other people.”
Being a new father will be challenging.
“I think right now [the biggest challenge] is going to be the lack of sleep because a baby is a 24/7 job and I know my wife will be taking care of most of that but I will be there to support her.”
Mr. Lo plans on returning on the last week of school to see his eight graders culminate.
