Recently AJMS students went on a field trip to Minneapolis for a journalism convention. Editors and other leaders from the Bulldog Bugle went on the trip. At the convention, we went to classes where speakers talked about journalism, went on field trips to local media sites, learned about journalism careers, and we also explored Minneapolis. It was something new for students who haven’t traveled before. I asked questions about their experience over there:
Sarai Ronquillo’s experience:
“My flight to Minneapolis was alright, just a little movement and turbulence. Something I found most interesting in Minneapolis was the clothes didn’t include taxes. My favorite part of the trip was being able to explore and hangout with my friends. My least favorite part was not being able to explore the Mall of America. Something I miss about Minneapolis was their strawberry smoothie with whipped cream on top. Lastly, something I wished I did when I was there was going to a M&M shop so I can customize my own M&Ms.”

Sherlyn Bonilla:
“My flight to Minneapolis was pretty awesome. I found the night club [we walked past] interesting and the weather because of the outfits the men were wearing, they were practically naked. The weather was interesting because Cali is way more hot and it rarely rains or gets cold so compared to Minneapolis I got really cold. My favorite part of the trip was the convention and the lessons because the law lessons interested me by learning new things even though I don’t like history or any of that. I didn’t like the coffee shop because the vanilla latte gave me a tummy ache but I still got more. Something I miss about Minneapolis is definitely the weather, it sucked because I would really cold to the point I couldn’t feel my fingers and when I went inside the hotel it felt like I would get slapped in the face due to how warm it was inside but I still enjoyed it. I wish we could have stayed longer.”
Avin Corona (from Santa Barbara)
“My flight to Minneapolis was good but a little scary since it was my first time flying. The thing I found most interesting was how cold it got and I really like the cold. My favorite part of the trip was getting to connect with people from different schools. My least favorite part is sleeping in on my competition day. I miss the cold temperatures in Minneapolis and the city was pretty. Something I wish I did was go to more stores and shops.”

Diego Garcia (from Santa Barbara):
“My flight to Minneapolis was pretty great. I enjoyed the tablet on the seat. What I found most interesting about Minneapolis is the weather. I thought the climate was very different from Santa Barbara. My favorite part of the trip was meeting new people and getting closer to those I already knew. My least favorite part was not having too much time at the end of the day to visit fellow student’s rooms. I really miss the city because it was much bigger than Santa Barbara and wish I could’ve seen it all. I wish I could’ve gone to the Mall of America more while I was still there in Minneapolis since I was only able to go once.”
