At 6:00pm in the gymnasium on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, Animo Jefferson Charter Middle School held a parent meeting to inform parents about the new Common Core standards.

In the meeting, it was discussed what should be expected with CCSS (Common Core state standards) and how students can be helped in literacy and math.

Edgar Flota, the assistant principal at AJCMS spoke to the parents and showed an informative power point as well. Flota said, “Fully implementation [of the standards and changes] is coming, so parents need to know that the level and rigor of the work is going to go up.”

Esperanza Guidos, parent of a student at Animo Jefferson Charter Middle School said, “I did not know about the Common Core standards.” She said that she came to the meeting to know what she needs to do in order to help her student. Guidos said that she now knows how the exams will be for now on.

A parent of a student at AJCMS named Sergio Quintero said that from the parent meeting he learned information about the standards and to be more involved.
